Appreciate Bad Days

Monday Motivation

Hello everyone.  Hope you had an awesome weekend. 🙂  I spent the weekend with the ‘Fam’ & while browsing through movies, I stumbled upon one in particular that caught my eye.  It was, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” Now, some of you may have already seen this movie, per I believe it came out over a year ago.  I found this movie to be quite interesting.  It was based around a certain young school-aged boy who just couldn’t seem to catch a break, yet everyone else, including his family members, seemed to always have everything going their way.  He made a birthday wish that his family could take a step in his shoes & have a bad day…& it came true!

This can be a very tough ordeal to endure for anyone at any given duration of time, whether for a day…or a year.  One thing that really stood out to me, was the fact that although his family members individually had the worst day ever…they all seemed to bounce back & make the most of it, in spite of.  One family member failed his driver’s test, another out of the blue caught the flu, one parent practically blew a very important interview, & the other parent wrecked a very important book release promo at their job, due to a printing error.  Even after all of the setbacks & disappointments, they became closer as a family after being put in situations that caused them to see each other in a new light. So, I’d like to leave you with a poem inspired by this very topic to help you get through your day.

Sometimes, I might think about my day & cry,

On other days, I feel like one big sigh

Sometimes, I’m expectant & filled with glee

And at other times, I just want to run & flee

Good days, bad days, can be one in the same,

For without the bad days, good days would have no name  © J.L.Hunt

So, stay encouraged & have a good day! 🙂  Until next time,”Toodles!”

#FunFriday – Game Night!

Hello everyone. Wow, it’s already the end of another week! Time seems to be flying by. 🙂 Well, tonight is…you guessed it, Game night!  So prepare to order the pizza & gather the ‘fam’ around for some much-needed fun.  Invite other families & friends over to join in the fun.  Each family can even compete against each other to make it more interesting. Let the gaming begin! 🙂

Board Games

Now, I’m sure everyone has their favorite games they enjoy.  Some great choices would be…Monopoly, Apples to Apples, Connect 4, Sorry, Family Feud, or a good ol game of Chess or Checkers.  For some of the younger kids, Candyland, Chutes & Ladders, Pictionary & Hi-Ho Cherry-O.  You can also play some card games such as Uno, Go Fish, Crazy 8’s, Memory & Old Maid.

I’ve also discovered some non-traditional board games that you may or may not be familiar with…

Mad Gab –

Objective: To be the first team to land on or pass the FINISH oval. Progress is made by correctly “hearing” the Mad Gabs

  1. The team with the youngest player starts.
  2. The READER takes the first THREE Mad Gab cards from the box. …
  3. Play begins when the timer is up-ended by the opposing team. …
  4. Team members shout out suggested phrases, demand that the READER read faster or slower, ask for words to be emphasized and so on.

Pass the Popcorn –

Objective: The Pass the Popcorn Game is a ticket to fast-paced movie fun. Players are given clues about a film based on its actors, characters, story or quotes and must race to the be the first to identify the movie. The winner is the first to complete the category tiles.

Balderdash –

Objective: The Balderdash Board Game is the hilarious game of bluffing. The laugh-out-loud fun bluffing game includes five different categories. With 336 clues, the Balderdash Game provides many game nights worth of excitement.

Video Games –    hclubgametech-090712-001-617x416

Now some families enjoy the traditional games, but others may favor electronic or digital games. Now, there are various game systems out there, like Xbox, Playstation & Wii, so regardless of which system you use, join in with the kids & challenge them to a game!

Make Your Own

You can also make your own games! Making and designing your own game is an awesome way to unite the family.  Together you’ll decide on rules, layouts, game pieces, and more. Imagine the fun you’ll have sharing your creation with friends for years to come!

10 Ways to Make Your Own Board Game from Kids Activities Blog, is the perfect place to help you get started.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the multiple game options, & that you & yours have an awesome weekend! Until next time…”Toodles!”

Motivation Monday – Be Happy!

“We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.”― Charles R. Swindoll

Say what?  Surely, you jest!  Did you get a good look at the quote above?  I did, & I have to admit, I’m sort of having a problem with it.  This is easier said than done. It’s so much simpler to blame someone or something for whatever goes wrong in our lives. Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes someone else IS at fault.  I mean, did I tell that person to drive like a maniac & cut me off back at the stoplight?  Did I ask that person to just cut in front of me at the grocery checkout? The nerve!  And how about the person who allowed their shopping cart to bang into my car?  I mean seriously…did you not see me sitting here?

I can go on & on…but that would run into another post!  Unfortunately, there will always be something or someone to set you off, to get under your skin, or disappoint you in some form or another.  It’s called LIFE!  Not a pretty picture sometimes, but we all have to deal with it.  So, you know what I’m going to do?  I’m going to let you in on a secret….on how to deal with all your issues.  Psst, psst…come in a little closer…I want to make sure you get this.  A little closer…ok, here it is….

Change your mind-set.

(Gasp) Did I shock you? I know it shocked me just saying it…I had to practically force the words out! But hey, I feel you…& it’s going to be ok 🙂  We can get through this.  We just have to change how we look at some things, & how we deal with certain situations, that’s all. Like the saying goes,

“Life is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re gonna get.”

Or….”When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

Or…..”You can throw a lemon at the head of the guy who stole your parking space in the parking lot!”  Just kidding, just kidding. (LOL) We are adults & we have to behave accordingly. (Bummer!) 😉

So, the gist? Try to let go of negative emotions & viewpoints, & keep your cool in every situation.  It’s not over! You’re not done yet.  Every day is a new day & a fresh start.

I also have a special treat for you.  I want you to jump-start your week with a boost of positive energy.  I want you to leave this post feeling Uplifted…Free, & Happy!  So, I want to share a song that gets me going, even when I DON’T FEEL like going, or thinking, or even getting out of bed for that matter!

Click below to hear a great get off your couch,  jump on your feet, dance like nobody’s watching song, “Happy” by Ayiesha Woods…Enjoy!

#FunFriday-Movie Night!

It’s Friday y’all!  I’m so excited to help you jumpstart your weekend. Today is movie night! So, prepare to break out the popcorn. 🙂  First off, let me just say, that I think every weekend you should schedule time for an activity, so the family has something to look forward to.  It creates excitement in the kids, & for you too! (It also helps as an incentive for the kids to behave during the week as well 🙂 )  Each week day will go by just a little more smoothly when you have something enjoyable coming up.  So, no worries, I’ll also be here to assist every Friday, so, let’s get to it!

There are a lot of great movies out right now. And, if the kids have started back to school this week, they will be extra amped to get out & shake off some of the ‘first week of school blues’ 🙂  So, what’s playing right now?  Let’s explore.

Now, I’ll start with the new releases, but some movies have been out for several weeks or more…so, I’ll still list them in case some of you haven’t seen them yet.
